Peter Marshall

I first studied photography as a short course during my teacher training year in 1970-71, making use also of the opportunity to study media studies, film studies and gain practical experience behind a television camera! A vital stimulus to further thought about the medium was given by studying with Raymond Moore at a number of workshops in the mid 70's. Since my first portfolio in a photographic magazine in 1973 I have had work in many books, newspapers, magazines and exhibitions.

My current photographic work falls into two distinct areas, both essentially documentary concerning the contemporary urban experience. I am working in both b/w and colour on urban landscape and structures and also photographing people on the streets, mainly involved in actitivities such as demonstrations and festivals.

I spent 8 years writing about all aspects of photography for 'About.com', producing around 400 major features and several thousand shorter ones, creating one of the largest web sites dealing with the history, techniques and aesthetics of photography. Unfortunately this work is no longer on line. I now write about photography on the '>Re:PHOTO' blog and most of my personal work goes on the 'My London Diary' web site. I also have a site on the Lea Valley, including the main site of the London 2012 Olympics, with pictures from the 1980s to the present. A little of my work from before 2000, particularly of London Buildings, is on the London Pictures site.
